Few animals get as much out of a single paw as a bear. It walks flat-footed, setting its whole sole down with each step much as we do, which is why its prints can look oddly human. The same paw rolls over logs to find beetles, rakes apart rotten stumps for ants and grubs, digs out roots, and hooks into bark when it is time to climb. This piece honors that hard-working paw and the animal behind it: a big print ringed in bristly fur, its toes and claws pierced along the crown, little birds tucked by the claw points, and in the hollow of the heel the bear itself, ambling along on all fours. This bear's metal is cut by hand and finished three ways. Rust Patina gives warm, weathered orange-brown, Distressed Copper shows brushed swirls and dark plum mottling, and Hammered Black reads as a crisp, dark outline. Small nails, double-sided tape, velcro or magnets will hold it on the wall. Give it a spot above a study desk, beside a reading chair, in a guest loft, in a child's bedroom or in an entry nook by the coat hooks. It works as bear wall decor or rustic wall decor, and makes a cheerful present for anyone who has ever stopped everything to watch a bear.
