Medium Bear Paw

From $26.00

Long before it hung on walls, the bear's paw lived in quilts. The Bear's Paw patchwork block, with its broad square pad and row of pointed claw triangles, has been pieced into bed covers for well over a century, and in some regions it goes by Duck's Foot in the Mud or Hand of Friendship. This piece takes that old pattern back to the animal it came from: a paw print with a shaggy, fur-fringed edge, five oval toe pads, a pointed claw above each toe, and a heel left wide open so your wall becomes part of the design. Each paw is hand-cut metal, finished to suit the room: Distressed Copper shows brushed highlights and rusty speckling, Rust Patina gives an even, weathered reddish brown, and Hammered Black makes a clean, graphic outline. Hang it with small nails, double-sided tape, velcro or magnets. Set it above a reading chair, over a guest bed made up with a patchwork quilt, in a sewing room, a nursery or a cabin hallway. It fits right in as cabin wall decor, and it is a warm present for quilters, bear lovers and anyone who grew up under a homemade quilt.
